From the start of human history, we were amazed by the night sky and the objects present on the celestial dome. As time progresses, our thinking capabilities are enhanced and some of our great ancestors did incredible work to understand nature. But some people intentionally or by mistake misinterpreted their theories and observations about celestial bodies. The misinterpretations of those notorious people are still prevalent in our society and make our society hollow from its pillars. So here we are going to discuss some of the cosmic claims which are fake and have no relation with the reality of this world.

Searching For Meaning

There is a strong belief among people that celestial bodies like the moon and planets of the solar system do affect our life by changing our moods, future and controlling our lives. People do many rituals to calm these planets so that nothing bad happens to them. But they don’t know that it is just a false belief which has nothing to do with reality.  Many people claim that phases and moments of the moon can change our mood and eventually that would change our future. They believe in this hoax on the fact that if a moon can cause tides in the ocean then it can cause mood swings also. But here I want to clarify that tides are caused by the moon’s gravitational pull, not by its moment and phases. We will discuss the science of tides in the next paragraph but we have neither theoretical nor observational results which can back the claim that phases of the moon can change our mood. This is an absolutely false claim spread by some ill-minded and non-scientific temperament people for their personal benefits. And like the moon, there are no effects on our mood by other planets and celestial bodies. And if your psychological state is so lite that it can be swung by celestial bodies, you better need to go to a psychiatrist and become more psychologically stable. Because if you are psychologically weak, not just celestial bodies but even one saying against your beliefs by any street person can change your mood. Nature is the greatest healer to our pains, it has been proved that walking in greenery, forest, and any natural site can heal our mood but this thing is only true for our surroundings. But if you say that you are in the desert and seeing just a pinhole view of greenery then claiming that this pinhole view is healing the pain of a person is not more than a fake claim or fake condolence.

Human and Celestial Bodies

Now, let’s talk about the reason behind the occurrence of tides. From our elementary classes, we all know about the “universal law of gravitation” by Newton. According to this law, the gravitational force is equal to the product of masses of two objects divided by the square of their distance. So if we go with this law, then it is clear that the distance between the moon and earth is less than the product of their masses, so the oceans feel the little magnitude of gravitational pull, resulting in tides formation.  And in this gravitational pull, the little contribution is also from the sun’s gravitational pull.  So here we can see that tides are actually the result of the combined effect of the moon and sun gravitational pull, not of any other supernatural power. Similarly, other celestial bodies have a gravitational impact on earth but respective distances are so huge that the gravitational effect which we feel here is negligible.

Tides

Today, after so many advancements in science and technology people still believe in these hoaxes. They use scientific instruments to improve their life but still have belief in these fake claims. This shows the cultural biases among people. And to get rid of this, the best thing we can do is to inculcate rational and scientific temperament in ourselves. Because this not only helps us improve our physical world but also helps us develop spiritually.
